Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) risk screening and dyslipidemia treatment for primary prevention of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease (ASCVD)

This online, self-paced, CME program has been co-developed by the Cardiovascular Health & Stroke Strategic Clinical Network, and the University of Calgary CME&PD.

The intent of this online CME is to support and educate key providers (ie. Physicians, pharmacists, NPs) with the information needed to engage in lab-based cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk screening and apply appropriate evidence-based treatment to patients for primary prevention of ASCVD.

After completing this course, you will be enabled to:

  1. Describe the CVD need/opportunity gap in Alberta,
  2. Understand appropriate CVD risk screening procedures,
  3. Explain how the lab-based CVD screening tool fits with other provincial reporting and IT processes and procedures (e.g. ASaP, workflow, Netcare, EMRs, CII PAR, MyHealthRecords),
  4. Apply the Canadian Cardiovascular Society 2021 dyslipidemia guidelines for treatment decisions.

This course will be of interest to all primary care physicians interested in learning more about the current dyslipidemia guidelines.

This course will also serve the learning needs of other healthcare practitioners including nurse practitioners and pharmacists that are working with patients having cardiovascular disease risk factors.
