Description

As the Physician Health Advisor, Practice Condition Monitoring, you are involved in the review of Physician Health Monitoring (PHM) files as they relate to compliance of practice conditions and restrictions. You will interact with physicians and lawyers regarding practice conditions and treatment plans, and actively participate in committee activity. You will play a critical role in the review of physician prescribing practices and interventions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the day to day operations of the Practice Condition Monitoring program to ensure it aligns with leadership’s strategic direction:
Work with the Assistant Registrar to monitor physicians with health conditions and to make recommendations on treatment plans.
Review and monitor practice conditions, interacting with other health care providers, such as physician health monitors and psychologists.
Meet with physicians dealing with health conditions to provide instruction/motivation to implement treatment plans and provide follow-up upon completion of treatment programs.
Meet with lawyers representing physicians with health conditions to negotiate potential practice condition agreements.
Draft contracts and agreements for practice conditions.
Participate on Physician Health Monitoring Committee by providing information and recommendations.

Provide assistance to the Assistant Registrar and Senior Medical Advisors in Physician Health Monitoring:
Monitor physicians with practice conditions using available data from Alberta Health and other pertinent data sources.
Monitor physicians with prescribing conditions using prescribing databases.
Respond to external inquiries about practice condition concerns.
Review physician responses to inquiries.
Assist with prescribing trend analysis.

Requirements

Education:
Specialized professional skills typically obtained through a Bachelor’s degree plus professional certificate in area of specialty or equivalent, or additional classes in specialized area.

Experience:
Requirements for 8 to 12 years of related experience.

Skills:
Clinical and triage experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
Must have a broad understanding of prescribing and medications.
Strong analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
