NURSE PRACTITIONER – OPIOID CLINIC
Full-Time, Permanent
Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are Registered Nurses who have advanced education at a minimum of a Master of Nursing level or equivalent, possess clinical expertise within their stream(s) of practice, and are registered with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) as an NP. The Opioid Clinic will provide treatment for clients diagnosed with a severe opioid use disorder who are now stable but require ongoing treatment. Working from a harm reduction and trauma-informed approach, the NP is responsible for hydromorphone/methadone/suboxone prescribing, medical support, and functioning as a member of the Edmonton Oliver Primary Care Network (EOPCN) team. This position may require evening and weekend availability.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
• Engages clients in risk factor and health problem identification, goal setting, and making choices of intervention for disease treatment, prevention, and health promotion
• Orders and interprets appropriate screening, diagnostic, and laboratory tests
• Sees clients at the clinic and other community locations
• Keeps complete and accurate records of client visits through timely documentation
• Collaborates with clients, physicians, and other allied health members of the team to develop appropriate, client-centered, individualized care plans
• Contributes to the development of learning resources and initiates health education and other activities that assist, promote, and support clients
• Considers the psychosocial, emotional, ethnic, cultural, and spiritual dimensions of a client’s health without judgement
• Uses and adapts assessment tools and techniques based on the client’s unique needs
• Liaisons with other community agencies
• Preceptor to nurse practitioner students

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
• Current registration with CARNA
• Registered on the CARNA Nurse Practitioner roster
• Baccalaureate Program in Nursing preferred
• 3-5 years’ nursing experience
• Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or equivalent certified
• Security Clearance
• Experience in caring for diverse populations
• The NP will be the most-responsible practitioner for individuals & families and carry their own panel
• NPs in Alberta will be authorized under federal legislation for prescribing Controlled Drugs and Substances once the individual NP has successfully met CARNA requirements
