We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with experience in patient-centered, and recovery-based care in Addiction and Mental Health, in Edmonton, Alberta. This position is based out of a centralized downtown family practice office and will provide concurrent support to individuals who require treatment in place for a variety of medical conditions including chronic disease, acute wound care, and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infection (STBBI) testing/ treatment. Services will be community-based and recovery-oriented for adults experiencing severe and persistent mental illness, addiction, and homelessness. The NP will have access to resources and support from the South Side Primary Care Network, to collaboratively provide care to individuals whose lives have been impacted by unstable housing, socioeconomic factors, and substances.
The primary focus of the NP role is on diagnosing and managing common and complex health conditions, promoting health, and preventing illness/injury, ordering, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, other therapies, and performing procedures, interventions and/or treatments.
This position requires a Nurse Practitioner to assess and treat clients in the community. This may include assessing/testing and treating clients for STBBI and prescribing non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment options such as opioid replacement therapy and primary care services. The NP must be authorized by the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta to prescribe controlled drugs and substances including Suboxone. The successful candidate will foster collaborative partnerships with clients, physicians, community-based services, and agencies to enhance the provision of services to clients and their families. In addition, the NP will assess, treat, and support the detoxification of clients with complex addiction, mental health, and medical conditions.

Successful completion of an approved NP program at a minimum of a Master of Nursing level. Registration with CARNA as an NP.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Two years of recent experience as an NP is preferred. Knowledge and/or experience of addiction and/or mental health treatment modalities (e.g., motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and solution-focused therapy). Proven ability to work with community stakeholders required. Effective communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrating effective time management, independent decision-making, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; and an ability to foster positive relationships within a multidisciplinary team environment are all expectations of this role.
Experience providing Addiction and Mental Health/Public Health services. Experience engaging complex clients in a variety of settings. Knowledge and/or experience of harm reduction strategies. Knowledge of testing and treatment pathways for HIV and HCV.
